Natural
Choice began with a plentiful organic strawberry crop
and a hot summer season. It was 1997 and Dean Walsh,
president of Purepak Inc., one of the largest growers
of organic produce in the world, needed a way to use
his unexpected abundance of fruit. While pondering the
future of the strawberries and looking for a way to
escape from the summer heat, Dean decided to make sorbet.
His timing was perfect. People were beginning to choose
healthier, organic alternatives and Natural Choice quickly
became the "natural choice" for foods free
of pesticides and genetically modified organisms.
Once known only as a palette cleanser, Natural Choice
is turning that notion on its head with the introduction
of their organic sorbet. Making the puree from the fruit
grown on Purepak's Southern California farms, Natural
Choice combines fresh, organically grown fruit with
organic evaporated cane juice and purified water. The
result: sorbet so creamy and delicious that it's now
a refreshing, healthy treat that's become a year-round
favorite.
With
the success of the strawberry sorbet, Natural Choice
turned their attention to other fruits and other frozen
desserts. "The fruit people" as they quickly
became known, added more delicious sorbets and launched
the first -- and still the only -- line of organic fruit
bars.
Several thousand strawberries later, Natural Choice
boasts a successful line of seven
flavors of sorbets and six
flavors of fruit bars, available at Whole Foods,
Wild Oats and other natural food stores.
